   Everyone knows the children's riddle: "Two rings, two ends, and carnations in the middle" , and each of us understands perfectly well that we are talking about scissors. But here, what is their origin and what were the first scissors, few people know.

It is clear that the very first scissors were completely different from today's ones, they did not even look like those that people used a thousand years ago, and were two blades that were connected to each other, forming something like tweezers. Such scissors appeared quite a long time ago, about three and a half thousand years ago, and were used for shearing sheep.

Although the invention performed its main function, it was simply impossible to call it convenient. Yes, and they were used only if necessary to insulate themselves with sheep's wool, but cutting off their nails was, of course, problematic, apparently, they just gnawed.

And so we would live like this, "biting our nails", if it were not for the great mathematician Archimedes, whose lips belong to the phrase: "Give me a point of support, and I will turn the whole world!" after which the lever was invented. Based on this invention, about a thousand years ago, a craftsman came up with a design that consisted of two knives that were connected with a carnation and formed rings on the handles. It was with these scissors that the existence of those that we use today began.

Over time, everyone came to understand that these scissors are much more convenient than the previous ones, and here they began their own, separate life. They began to improve, there were special scissors for doctors and hairdressers. Someone believed that scissors must become a luxury item and therefore they were made of gold and silver and decorated with stones.

Naturally, the craftsmen could not help but "create", so there were scissors in the form of outlandish birds, the beak of which was intended for cutting, or scissors, the handles of which represented vines with ripe tassels of grapes, or dragon scissors, richly decorated stones.

It is noteworthy that craftsmen from different countries made different contributions to the invention of scissors, while each of them is unique in its own way. So the British own the invention of lawn shears, the French - culinary scissors, which were intended for butchering Christmas geese, the Germans - huge steel scissors for cutting metal, which are used in cases of accidents on the roads, and oriental craftsmen - elegant manicure scissors.

At the same time, there are also scissors for eggs, cigars, candle wicks, the shape of which is sometimes so bizarre that you don’t immediately understand that these are scissors.

At the same time, of course, we are interested in scissors used in the field of hairdressing.

There are three types of scissors:

  •   straight;

  •   thinning;

  •   flag.

Straight scissors cut hair, beards and mustaches, as well as milling. At the same time, professional hairdressing scissors differ significantly from ordinary ones, since they are made of high-quality steel, have a completely different sharpening angle and sharp tips. Straight scissors are distinguished by the presence of a long, medium and short blade.

Thinning scissors are used where it is necessary to perform thinning and shading of hair. At the same time, two types are distinguished here: one-sided and two-sided, the first have cloves on only one canvas, and the second naturally on two. It is worth noting that with the help of one-sided scissors, more hair is cut than with the help of two-sided ones, since those hairs that fall on the teeth are cut, and those that fall between them remain long.

Flag scissors are designed for the simultaneous process of shearing and thinning. At the same time, one blade of such scissors can be like that of straight scissors,

The history of the hair clipper.

  One of the variants of the first clipper was a sample of a certain Leland, who lived in America in the second half of the 19th century. Another version of the appearance of the machine says that the inventor of the instant clipper was the well-known Italian stylist Alberto Gomez, in narrow circles who was called Gitano. As you know, it was the duration of the process that did not triple him in cutting with scissors, he strove to use every minute of his time as efficiently as possible. Stylists tend to be far from inventive, but Gomez was unique. He was not only a human stylist, he loved order in the house and at work. It was he who, according to legend, in 1880 invented a miracle technique - a trimmer. It was this invention that prompted mankind to create new images of haircuts in the 19th century. Gitano's invention delighted millions of people all over the planet. This model was intended for haircuts of the male half of the population, since at that time short women's hairstyles were not in fashion. Only since the second half of the 20th century has this tool been used to create the image of not only men, but also women. A follower of this invention was a post-war hair clipper, which was released in England in 1955. It was set up quite simply. An electric motor is housed in a small, ergonomic plastic housing. On one side of the body there is a place for attaching nozzles for cutting different lengths. The principle of operation of the machine is similar to the action of scissors: two blades, one of which is stationary, and one is movable, which sets in motion a motor hidden in the case.

The first machines that were used by mankind were mechanical. The principle of their operation was as follows: a tool similar to pliers with cutting teeth and an adjustment screw was actuated by pressing the handle; the teeth began to move and cut off the hair. Such a machine, of course, is better than scissors, but its use required a lot of strength, which the hairdresser did not have by the end of the working day. When cutting, the machine could make mistakes and accidentally pull out the hair from the client, which brought unthinkable discomfort and general indignation. In past centuries, electricity was not as available as it is today, so every hairdresser could not afford an electric machine. After electrification was successfully completed throughout the world, devices began to be massively purchased and used in work. The only thing that the designers could not improve was the ability to cut one's own hair. After all, it is inconvenient for a simple person to cut himself from behind, so you can get hurt or ruin your hair.
