   Hair styling is giving hair a certain shape for an indefinite period of time. Not all hair is equally able to maintain the shape and pattern given to them during the styling process. It depends on the cross-sectional shape of the hair, which can be round, oval or elliptical.
The physical properties of hair that affect the safety of hairstyles include tensile strength, elasticity, hygroscopicity and elasticity.
Styling elements:
Parting - a line dividing the scalp into two parts.
Parting - divides the hairline of the parietal zone into two equal parts.
Side parting - divides the hair parting into two unequal parts.
Half parting - a shortened wave line. Half partings are: oblique.straight. and curly.
A curl is a curled strand of hair. Depending on the curl, the curls can be twisted up or down. According to the position of the curls on the scalp, as well as in appearance, horizontal, vertical, voluminous and flat curls are distinguished.
A wave is a strand of hair that has a smooth bend and is limited on both sides by crowns. Crown - the highest line of the wave.
Direct waves are located parallel to the parting, oblique - at an acute angle to the parting, transverse - perpendicular to the parting.
In relation to the face, the waves are: protruding  and reverse.
Depending on in which part of the face the protruding and reverse waves are adjacent, they are called frontal, temporal, facial.

Hair styling methods

Cold hair styling (andulation).
   This styling lends itself well to soft, elastic, slightly curly hair. The beauty and safety of the waves will depend on how carefully the hair is combed and worked out from the very roots. Styling is performed on clean, wet hair in this state, they have sufficient plasticity. A fixing agent can be a decoction of flaxseed, all kinds of gels, hair styling mousses, which should be carefully distributed from roots to ends.
The direction of the first wave should always coincide with the direction of natural hair growth.
When performing a classic hairstyle using the andulation method, the following rules must be observed:

  • if the wave on one side of the parting is reverse, then on the other side it should be front;

  • the wave near the face itself should be slightly narrowed;

  • the facial frontal wave must necessarily cover the frontal recess, the temporal wave must cover the temporal protrusion;

  • the formed waves must be dried very carefully;

  • Comb your hair only after it is completely dry.

Hair styling with curlers.
   Styling rules with curlers:

  • the thickness of the strand at the base should not be wider than the diameter of the curler;

  • strands must be separated in even rows and combed thoroughly;

  • strands should be the same size;

  • each strand must be well tensioned, constantly maintaining this tension  during winding;

  • the ends of the strands should be carefully scrolled, carefully distributing  hair along the entire length of the curler;

  • each twisted strand should lie on its base.

Twisted hair must be thoroughly dried and cooled.
Hair styling with electric curlers
   Performed only on dry  and clean hair.
When working with electric tongs, you should separate the strand with a comb, grab it at the hair root with tongs, place it between the tongs roller and the clamp, warm it up, advance the tongs along the entire length of the strand and wind the hair onto the tongs roller. Hold for 20-30 seconds and carefully pull the tongs out of the curl.
Having received curls, you can proceed to the final styling, applying, if necessary, blunting or fleece.
Blow-dry hair styling
   This is the simultaneous drying and shaping of the hair.
Blow dry clean, damp hair. As a fixing agent, you can use foam, hair styling mousse, liquid gel or lotion of varying degrees of fixation. The styling product should be evenly distributed over the entire length of the hair, paying special attention to the roots.
With the help of a hair dryer, you can add volume to your hair, style it in waves or straighten it.
During styling, the jet of hot air should always be directed, firstly at a tangent to the head and secondly, from the roots to the ends of the hair. You should not hold the hair dryer in one direction for a long time - the jet should move along the brush from one edge to the other.
   Hair dryer has three  temperature mode of operation: with hot air - for drying hair, with moderate - for styling hair, with cold - for cooling the worked strand.
   As a result of styling, the hair should rise from the scalp to the level that the final shape of the hairstyle provides.
   The "bombing" method - involves the work of a hairdryer and a flat brush and is most often used when styling short hair.
   The "brushing" method - styling is done with a hairdryer and a round brush for straightening curly hair, styling long hair, twisting the ends of the hair and adding volume to short hair.

  If your hair is too coarse and heavy, or if you spend a lot of time styling in order to keep your hairstyle for at least a couple of hours, we have some recommendations on how to present the volume of your hair in the most favorable light.

   Varnishes, gels, waxes of only the strongest fixation will help to cope with thick hair. For thin hair, medium and weak fixation products with a therapeutic effect are suitable. For curly hair, you can use creams, foams to form curls, as a rule, these are means of extra strong fixation. Curly hair can be straightened with oil, mousse, straightening gel  and moisturizing effect.

So, let's start styling. To do this, we need: a hair dryer with various nozzles, combs ("fish bone" and brushes), combs, clips.

Varying the temperature of the blow dryer helps dry the hair while locking in volume. Emergency cooling prevents injury  hair and scalp.

Usually laying is carried out in an average temperature regime with a sufficiently high power. The hair dryer should be kept at a distance of about 15 cm from the head so as not to damage the hair and skin, and only occasionally can the temperature be switched to hot. In this mode, you need to bring the hair dryer closer to the hair for a few seconds, and then switch to emergency cooling. Thus, you can not only dry, but also fix the strands.

Blow-dry steps

1 . Apply a serum or other fixative to washed, damp hair. Distribute it evenly through the hair with a comb.

2. Parting from ear to ear, divide the hair into two zones: occipital and frontal. With a vertical parting, divide the frontal zone into two side ones and secure them with clips.

3. Select a strand 3-4 cm wide in the lower part of the occipital zone and use the fishbone comb to lift the hair at the roots, directing the air flow to the comb.

4. Then move the comb further through the hair (make sure that the hair tension is the same everywhere). Perform these manipulations until the strands at the roots are completely dry.

5. Take a round  brush-brushing,  preferably medium diameter, and dry the strand, stretching and twisting it at the same time.

6. Continue to dry the entire occipital area to the top of the head.

7. At the crown, it is very important to be able to create volume. To do this, we wind the root part on large-diameter curlers and leave to cool for a few minutes (a). Or, on wet hair of the crown zone, spray with varnish at the roots and dry on a round comb (b). This manipulation must be done quickly, until the varnish has hardened.

8. Let's start with the side zones. Just like on the back of the head, we start drying from the bottom row (a). We lift the strands at the roots, then pull them up to the face, simultaneously twisting (b, c, d).

9. Thus, we continue to dry the side zones to the central parting.

10. We dry the entire parietal and crown zones, lifting the hair at the roots.

11. Beat the hair with your hands under a stream of cold air to give splendor to the whole hairstyle.

12. To give the whole hairstyle a complete look, we wind the ends of the hair down or up on a brush with a small diameter.

If creases occur during installation, dampen the area with water and dry again.

13. In conclusion  Apply a light hold hairspray to all hair, holding the can at a distance of 15 cm from the hair.

    Try not to overload your hair with modeling products, as the hairstyle will look heavy and lose its natural shine.

Questions for self-control:

1. How is crown volume created?

2. How should the side areas be dried?
